Banana Pudding

A delicious dessert for a summer cookout. Banana pudding is a staple dessert at our house and this makes a large enough batch to feed quite a few people.
Prep Time 20 minutes
Chill 1 hour
Servings: 18 people
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 5oz package of vanilla pudding NOT the cook and eat variety
  • 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 12oz tub of whipped cream extra creamy is preferred
  • 16 oz vanilla wafer cookies
  • 8 bananas, sliced to preferred size

Equipment

  • 1 9×13 pan
  • 1 Mixing bowl

Method

  1. In large mixing bowl, combine milk, sweetened condensed milk, pudding mix, and vanilla. Stir until thoroughly combined.
  2. Fold in whipped cream until combined. Don't use a mixer: folding allows the dessert to be creamier.
  3. In 9×13 pan, start with a layer of vanilla wafers, covering the bottom. Then add your mixture until that layer is covered (spread it around with a spatula). Then add a layer of bananas, followed by more of the mixture, then cookies, etc. The precise order doesn't matter so much.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour.

Notes

  • If you don’t want your bananas to brown, I’d recommend not adding any on the top layer.
  • You can crush up some cookies to sprinkle over the top just before serving:  if you do it before you refrigerate, they’ll get soft.
