Cold War Barbecue

Sweet Baked Beans

A BBQ crowdpleaser, these beans are similar to the "Boston Baked Beans" you might get on the east coast.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large can pork and beans no additional flavouring
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp onion powder granulated onion
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard powder

Equipment

  • 1 9×13 glass baking dish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Combine all ingredients in 9×13 casserole dish. Stir to combine.
  3. Bake uncovered for one hour or until top of beans has started to harden (candy).

Notes

  • These are definitely on the sweet side.  The top shouldn’t be rock hard when finished:  instead, it should somewhat caramelize.
